Unraveling the Mind: Why you NEED to Watch Perfect Blue

Have you been searching for a hella good psychological thriller movie? Well I got the perfect (no pun intended) and only one that you need to watch, and that is Perfect Blue.

First, I'll be giving some spoiler free reasons as to why you should actually watch this anime and then give a warning not to read any further as after that I will be giving my opinions and explanation on what the fuck actually happened in this movie.

Enjoy⋆。゚☁︎ ゚☾ ゚。⋆

💙Why You Should Watch It💙

I'm just gonna list off the key reasons why you should watch this movie and important elements you may be looking for.

  • It fucks with your head. The movie's about this girl that was an ex popstar and is now becoming an actress and starring in a movie that we get to see filmed. The strange part is that the movie starts to get merged with her personal life and as the audience we have to start guessing what's actually happening. We pretty much have no idea what's real and what's fake.

  • The style. This may seem random, but it was a very pleasing movie to watch because of how it looked. It had a very retro anime style to it, which I never thought I'd like, but it somehow made it more eerie.

  • The symbolism. The colours used in this movie are used very intentionally. It was cool to learn what the colours symbolized (which I'm obviously not telling you in this section lol) and then going back and re-watching the movie and seeing how purposefully they're used.

  • They don't hold back. This movie is an emotional roller-coaster and I defiantly suggest looking up trigger warnings for it as there are fully nude and r*** scenes displayed. Though it's tough to watch, I'm glad they brought it to the extreme levels that it was because it makes you feel so much more for the main character.

  • Leaves you saying "what?". I love movies that leave me questioning it to the very end. Although you technically do get an answer to everything, you still have no idea what was real and fake and will leave you wanting to search for answers.

  • It's short. This beautiful anime film is only 1 hour and 21 mins long, so you can speed run it pretty quick lol.

That's all I can really say without spoiling too much of the plot. This is your warning not to read any further because I'm bouta unravel the shit out of this movie.

❤️My Explanation❤️

I'm first just going to start off with what I understood from this movie and my explanation of everything that happened. Click the arrow bellow to read the spoilers. (Drink every time I type Mima lol)

Now, with the colour symbolism. This was used so well during the movie and I can't believe I didn't notice it all being used so precisely the first time around.

  • Blue. We'll start with blue since it's in the title. This colour represents the female energy and purity in the Japanese culture. So, in the movie, it's used to show what Mima is trying to achieve and what she actually wants. It's almost used as a safe colour.

  • Red. Simply enough, red was used to symbolize Mimas sanity slipping. If you pay attention enough, as the film progresses, you'll see that more and more red is shown during important scenes. Even near the beginning, the only bright thing in her room is the red wallpaper right above her computer. That's supposed to symbolize that the website and her being on it is what begins her confusion.
