Colour Theory: How To Use Its power To Your Advantage

Colour theory's more important than you may think. We see it being used in our everyday lives in psychology, advertisements, and education. Colour theory is pretty much the psychological effects that colours have on behaviours, moods, and emotions. Even though it may seem like BS, I promise you it's a real thing. This is how the human brain consciously or subconsciously perceives these colours and how they can influence our thoughts and feelings.

Below I will be listing the most important colours, the feeling/vibe they give off, and a deeper explanation/example with each one. Enjoy!

💛Warm vs. Cool💜

Let's first start with talking about the differences between warm and cool colour tones in general. Depending on the vibe you want to give off whether it's clothes you wear or ads for your products, this matters.

  • Red, yellow, and orange: warmth, excitement, and energy.

  • Blue, green, and purple: calmness, relaxation, and tranquility.

🤍Individual Colours🖤

Alrighty, these are the most common and (I'd say) important colours that you can use to influence how people think and perceive you as a person, or your brand.

  1. Red: arousal and excitement= grabs attention easily and elicits the thought of competitiveness or superiority.

  2. Blue: relaxation, trust, and productivity= used a-lot in tech brands and can make you seem trustworthy and approachable.

  3. Yellow: optimism and energy= food chains use this colour as it gives off a happy feel and being around the colour can promote creativity and alertness.

  4. Green: freshness, growth, and restoration= this gives off an effect of rejuvenation calmness.

  5. Purple: royalty, sophistication, and luxury= this is a "rich" colour that can make you appear wealthy and put-together, but also elicits the thought of mystery.

  6. Orange: warmth, vitality, and enthusiasm= this colour gives off a sense of urgency and can induce social interactions.

  7. White: purity= gives off a sense of simplicity and cleanliness

  8. Black: power= gives off a sense of strength and elegance (I know it's counterintuitive, but I don't make up the rules lol. Depends on how you use it.).
